Why does firefly use chinese
Showing all 54 items. The Alliance's full title is the "Anglo-Sino Alliance. That's why many characters sometimes speak Chinese. The Alliance flag, seen in the original pilot, is a blending of the US and Chinese flags. Nathan Fillion considers this to be the most fun he's had on a television series, and compares every other job he gets to it. The cast had a running gag where they would yell Summer Glau 's name whenever they flubbed a line or messed up. It began after she forgot her line at the end of a particularly difficult scene.
The gag continued through the filming of Serenity Fox originally aired the episodes out of chronological order. Syndicated runs, streaming services, and the DVDs all use this correct order.
Every space scene is without sound effects for the ship moving, precisely as it would be in space; no air, no sound. Of course there is background music during those scenes. Joss Whedon intended the show to have run for seven seasons. While there were low ratings at first, the real reason it was cancelled was that the FOX executives thought it was too dark.
Joss Whedon and the cast refused to change the storyline, so FOX canceled it with only 11 episodes out of 14 airing on the network. Prior to its cancellation fans formed a Firefly Immediate Assistance campaign which involves sending in postcards to the FOX Network to support the production of the show.
After that failed, the campaign worked on getting another network such as UPN to pick up the series for a second season. The campaign ended up being unsuccessful in securing the continuation of the show.
Every time Mal rides a horse, no matter what planet, it's always the same horse. His name is Fred. The Alliance officer and soldier uniforms are leftovers from Starship Troopers At a Dragoncon panel, Morena Baccarin confirmed the long-standing rumor that that subplot would have involved Inara having a terminal illness.
According to Amy Pascale's biography of Joss Whedon, Whedon proposed a Firefly plotline in which Inara injected herself with a prophylactic solution - not a birth control but a serum that would poison anyone who raped her. Folks in the 'Verse speak English or Chinese, one or the other being the dominant tongues most everywhere. It pays to know at least a little of both if you plan to get very far. Of the central planets , Londinium is primarily English-speaking, while Sihnon stands out as a center of Chinese influence.
Firefly does not translate what the characters are saying when speaking in Mandarin. If the viewer chooses to add subtitles on Netflix, the screen will display "Speaking Chinese" rather than translating what the character is actually saying. Nevertheless, each episode's individual wiki page contains a "Mandarin Translation" section.
Hundreds of languages made the great leap from Earth-That-Was and most of them survive in pockets and ghettos on most worlds. Only rarely, however, will anyone encounter a community that speaks a non-dominant language exclusively. However, many of Earth's languages besides English and Chinese have spread across the 'Verse and are widely spoken by many people next to the two mentioned and dominant languages. Execution : The tone on mei is badly off, but the pronunciation in quite good.
More of a pause after the na would also be best. Overall, not bad. Context : In a flashback, young Simon and his sister River are playing. Usage : This is funky sounding. Da is big, bianhua is change, so far so good. Is he still relevant? Simon wants to run some tests on River but she objects, tossing his medical kit. Mal walks in, narrowly missing the hurled bag, and River curses at him.
Usage : What the what? Ok, the final insult: ben erzi , meaning stupid son. But it sounds awful spiteful nuff. Admirable effort though! Best part of the video: you can hear a cow moo at the 4-second mark [the crew was smuggling a herd at the time].
I might not have seen a more elegant explanation on the subject. Please Help! Mon, March 19, - 5 posts Okay it's not Chinese, but what does 'scruth' mean? It's part of the hybrid culture that Whedon creates- His theory on the future is that the US and China both enter space at the same time, and equally mix cultures together. If you look at the Alliance flag as it appears in the series best seen on the side of the medicine crates in "The Train Job" , you'll notice that it is a combination of the American and Chinese flags.
